Many people consider the word cheap to be a bad thing. Perhaps it gives the impression the service you’ll receive isn’t as good.
But is this really true?
I decided to put this theory to the test by compiling a list of the best cheap web hosting companies, proving that affordable hosting can offer great performance, speed, features, and customer service.
I signed up for each host and monitored a variety of factors, all of which can be seen in depth in the web host’s individual reviews.
Web hosting doesn’t come much cheaper than this (unless it’s free). Hostinger not only offers insanely cheap web hosting, but they also provide some reassuring promises like a 99.9% uptime guarantee and a 30-day money-back guarantee. What’s there to lose?
Hostinger has been growing rapidly since its foundation in 2004. For me, they bring an exciting and fresh new aspect on low cost web hosting, whilst providing their customers with great features and reliable servers.
What strikes me about Hostinger is that they actively engage with their customers. They are open and honest, inviting positive and negative feedback to improve upon their services. They don’t shy away from getting their hands dirty, continuing to provide for their customers day in and day out, 24/7.
If signing up to Hostinger sparks your interest, you can find out more about them in my in-depth Hostinger review with actual data from my tests.

BlueHost was founded in 1996, so it’s safe to say they have a lot of experience in the hosting market. They’ve come a long way since then, and now proudly wear an officially recommended web host by WordPress badge. SiteGround is my all-time favourite web host because they are incredibly reliable, offer insanely fast server speeds, and they are recommended by WordPress. Whilst they don’t boast unlimited storage and bandwidth like some other hosts, they do offer features that put them ahead of the game.

For just £2.99 per month, SiteGround allows you to choose 6 different server locations, ensuring your target audience receives the best speeds possible. If you want to learn more about why this web host is so awesome, check out my SiteGround review.

HostGator has been amongst the hosting industry for a long time. You’ll probably recognise their name from adverts on the TV, or at least heard of them before. HostGator’s shared hosting plans start from just £2.21 per month and all come with a free domain name.

GoDaddy aren’t the biggest name in the hosting industry, but they’re certainly well known for being a great domain name provider. Of course, this means that all of their shared hosting plans include a free domain name with their annual plans.
At just £1.00 per month at the moment, GoDaddy’s Economy plan comes with unlimited bandwidth and a massive 100GB storage (not that you’d need that with a basic website). Anyway, the offer is there which is always inviting for new customers.
For beginners, GoDaddy is a solid choice. They offer 1-click installs for WordPress, an easy-to-use control panel, and free Microsoft Office 365 Business email for the first year. They don’t offer the best uptime but are certainly a steal for basic websites. For more information about GoDaddy, check out my GoDaddy review.
Pros:
• All hosting plans include a free domain (if paid annually)
• Plenty of storage on Economy plan at 100GB
• Unlimited bandwidth
• 1-click installs for WordPress, additional resources and registered domains
• 24/7 security monitoring and DDoS protection
• Easy-to-use cPanel
Cons:
• Overall uptime of 99.85%
• Customer support isn’t as good as it used to be

DreamHost are a solid web host if you’re looking for cheap web hosting. From just £2.08 per month, you won’t be limited to how many visitors your website has. Although most small websites won’t necessarily get that much traffic, it’s a bonus to have.
Customers will also get a free domain name, SSD storage, and a free SSL certificate. All of their shared hosting plans include automatic WordPress updates and free domain privacy.
DreamHost is well-known for their DreamPress packages (which are WordPress optimised hosting plans), however, their shared plans are a good starting point. Although DreamHost offers live chat, it’s only available during U.S. hours, so this is a bit of a pain for U.K. customers.
Pros
• Cheap shared web hosting with lots of benefits
• No limits on bandwidth or monthly visitors
• 97-day money-back guarantee
• 24/7 support including live chat
• Automatic WordPress updates
• Free WordPress migrations
Cons
• 3-year term for cheapest prices
• Live chat isn’t always available

FatCow are an eco-friendly web host, part of the EIG group, offering an all-inclusive shared hosting plan for £2.50 per month. Amongst their cheap web hosting, they include 1 free domain name, 30-day money-back guarantee, unlimited disk space and bandwidth, and unlimited email accounts.
In fact, FatCow was one of the first web hosts to offer just one hosting plan with all the benefits included. Although FatCow are a cheap web host initially, their renewal prices are pretty steep, rising to £8.95 per month, which kind of makes the plan not worth it. However, a great option for beginners who want a solid web host to begin with.
FatCow’s design is somewhat to be desired, however, it does make it easier to work with, offering a basic interface that would suit beginners. FatCow doesn’t use cPanel, they use vDeck which is very intuitive. If you’re interested to know more about what FatCow offers, you can read my full FatCow review here.
Pros
• Eco-friendly green web host
• Intuitive control panel
• Unlimited storage and bandwidth
• Free domain

Shared web hosting is where customers get a small portion of a larger web server, splitting the total available resources. Shared hosting is often very cheap because the hosting provider can offer multiple domains on the same server. Whilst you won’t get the best performance and resources on a shared hosting package, the plans are ideal for personal websites and small businesses.
Most web hosting providers offer a free domain name when you sign up for one of their hosting plans. More often than not, these domains are free for the first year. If you want to renew your domain name, you’ll need to pay the fee outlined by your hosting provider. This tends to be more expensive compared to if you went directly to a domain registrar.
Most web hosts offer something called 1-click installations. This means you can install software like WordPress with the click of a button for free.
If you plan to host any kind of website, I recommend installing an SSL certificate. Many web hosts offer a free Let’s Encrypt SSL which you can install on your website. An SSL shows your website visitors and search engines like Google that your website is secure.
